What is Methylcobalamin?

Methylcobalamin is an endogenous vitamin B12, but it is easier to be absorbed by the body than vitamin B12 and has better conductivity to nerves. As can be seen from its name, it contains Metallic element cobalt. When methylcobalamin enters the human body, it can quickly take effect, speed up the metabolism of folic acid and nucleic acid, and improve the excitability and transmitter levels of nerves. It has a significant effect on the treatment of peripheral neuropathy.

What is function of Methylcobalamin ?

  • Neurological Health: Methylcobalamin is essential for maintaining the health of nerve cells and proper neurological function. It helps in the synthesis of myelin, the protective covering of nerves.

  • Red Blood Cell Formation: It is necessary for the production of healthy red blood cells. A deficiency in B12 can lead to anemia, characterized by fatigue and weakness.

  • DNA Synthesis and Repair: Methylcobalamin is involved in DNA synthesis and repair. It works alongside other B vitamins to facilitate the production of genetic material.

  • Homocysteine Metabolism: It helps convert homocysteine, a potentially harmful amino acid, into methionine, which is beneficial for cardiovascular health. Elevated homocysteine levels are associated with an increased risk of heart disease.

  • Energy Production: It plays a role in the conversion of food into energy, helping to ensure that cells have the energy they need to function properly.

  • Mental Health: Adequate levels of methylcobalamin are associated with improved mood and cognitive function. Deficiency can lead to memory problems, depression, and other mental health issues.
